Splatoon is an action game series developed and published by Nintendo, born in 2015 on Wii U under the impetus of Nintendo EPD. Set in a colorful post-apocalyptic universe where Inklings, half-human half-cephalopod humanoids, roam, the heart of the concept revolves around paint: you shoot ink on the ground to cover the terrain, slow down opponents, and move around in squid form.
In the middle of the Nintendo catalog, the surprise of a competitive shooter original in its design stands out through the emphasis placed on territory control rather than eliminations with Splatoon (2015, Wii U). In 2017 on Switch, Splatoon 2 reinforces the formula with the Salmon Run mode, PvE co-op against Salmonids that would become a pillar of the series. In 2022, Splatoon 3 intensifies customization and establishes itself as the best-selling game of the year with 13 million copies sold.
With Splatoon Raiders (Switch 2, July 23, 2026), the game changes radically: the first game in the saga entirely focused on solo play and PvE co-op, it aims to broaden the player base, whether competitors or gamers looking for immediate fun.
