About
Nintendo, founded in 1889 as a playing card manufacturer, transformed itself into an essential giant of gaming. The company revolutionized the industry with the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) launched in 1985, which saved the video game market after the 1983 crash and established Nintendo as the leader of the sector. Iconic franchises like Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda and Donkey Kong defined generations of players and established the standards of game design.
Nintendo continued to innovate with successive consoles such as the Super Nintendo, the Nintendo 64, the GameCube, the Wii and the Nintendo Switch. The Wii revolutionized gaming by introducing motion controls, while the Nintendo Switch redefined hybrid gaming by combining a home console and a portable device. Nintendo remains one of the three largest gaming companies in the world, recognized for its creativity, innovation and timeless franchises.
