Metal Gear Solid, the cult franchise conceived by Hideo Kojima, came into being in 1998 on Sony's PlayStation. It follows the missions of Solid Snake, an infiltration agent leading the fight against the nuclear threats posed by Metal Gears, armed bipedal robots.

The series stands out for its tactical stealth gameplay, cinematics worthy of the movies (sometimes a tad long...), and philosophical questioning around subjects such as war, genetic manipulation, or information control. Standout installments such as MGS3: Snake Eater or MGS V: The Phantom Pain firmly established the series as a benchmark of the stealth genre, on par with the famous Assassin's Creed saga.
