Deep Rock Galactic

Deep Rock Galactic is a cooperative FPS franchise born within the Danish studio Ghost Ship Games. First highly anticipated on PC and consoles with the eponymous game, the title managed to establish itself throughout four years of early access thanks to an already identifiable blend: loud space dwarves, fully destructible caverns, and waves of insectoid aliens that turn every mining expedition into a suicide mission.

The first Deep Rock Galactic relies on procedurally generated missions, four complementary classes, and a cynical office humor, driven by a megacorporation that sends its employees to be slaughtered for a few exotic minerals. The game's success, sustained by free seasons, admirable community support, and strong word-of-mouth in co-op, gave birth to a cohesive universe centered on the planet Hoxxes IV.

Buoyed by this popularity, the franchise expanded into spin-offs such as Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor or Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core, which translates the formula into a roguelite setting where each run starts from scratch. Together, these productions not only help rejuvenate the cooperative FPS genre by putting cooperation, gameplay clarity, and gunplay "feel" at the heart of the experience, but also prove that a live-service game can be modest in size while still being ambitious over the long run.
