About

Founded in 2011 in Los Angeles by former WayForward director Sean Velasco, Yacht Club Games quickly established itself as a leading figure of independent neo-retro gaming. The studio broke through in 2014 with the massive success of Shovel Knight, funded via Kickstarter, boasting polished 8-bit gameplay and a platinum follow-up (Plague of Shadows, Specter of Torment, King of Cards). Since 2016, Yacht Club has also made a name for itself in publishing, with the compilation Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack and the ninja-platformer Cyber Shadow by Mechanical Head Studios. In 2022, Yacht Club unveiled its second original universe with Mina the Hollower, a Game Boy Color-style action-adventure somewhere between Link's Awakening and Castlevania, a project seen as decisive for the studio's survival.
