Evil Empire is an independent French studio founded in 2019 in Bordeaux, born from a partial split with Motion Twin. The studio was created specifically to handle post-launch support for Dead Cells, the roguelite by Motion Twin released in 2018, allowing the founding team to focus on new projects.

Under Evil Empire's stewardship, Dead Cells has received a massive flow of paid DLC and free updates, including notable collaborations with universes like Castlevania, Hollow Knight, and Terraria - direct proof of the studio's affinity with the franchise even before Belmont's Curse.

In 2024, Evil Empire launched The Rogue Prince of Persia in early access on PC, a 2D roguelite developed in partnership with Ubisoft. The studio is now working on Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, co-developed with Motion Twin and published by Konami, planned for October 15, 2026.
