Tomodachi Life

Tomodachi Life is a franchise of social simulators, both quirky and hilarious, developed by Nintendo, where you play the mischievous gods of an island inhabited by customized Miis. It all begins in 2009 with Tomodachi Collection, a Japan-exclusive title on Nintendo DS already allowing players to create their avatar inspired by themselves, their friends, or celebrities to watch the hectic existence of their Miis, full of misunderstandings and passions, whether romantic or dramatic.

The notoriety turned into worldwide commercial success in 2013 (2014 in the West) with Tomodachi Life on 3DS, Tomodachi Collection: New Life in Japan. Players are tasked with creating interrelationships between up to 100 Miis, helping as best they can to resolve the disasters of their whimsical lives, strange dreams for some, hearts in distress for others, all in real time. Carried by unpredictable humor and unmatched game quality, the title nevertheless does not fall short of its antics, notably on the issue of same-sex marriages whose absence caused a scandal upon its release.
