Street Fighter is a cult fighting game saga developed and published by Capcom since 1987. After a first arcade installment where players take on the role of Ryu or Ken in a world tournament against opponents like Sagat, revolutionizing the genre, the masterstroke came in 1991 with Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, a historic best-seller that took the video game world by storm and popularized all the conventions of a one-on-one fighting game. It was followed by variations such as Champion Edition, Super and Turbo. The saga achieved unprecedented success, to the point of influencing the industry and pop culture.
The saga's standout titles include the prequels Street Fighter Alpha "Zero" (1995-1998), Street Fighter III (1997-1999) which features a new generation of characters, and the 3D revival Street Fighter IV (2008-2014), followed by Street Fighter V (2016) geared towards e-sports, and Street Fighter 6 (2022) on PS4/5, Xbox and PC.
