Outward is an open-world survival RPG franchise inaugurated by Canadian developer Nine Dots Studio. The series capitalizes on the player's vulnerability: you're not the chosen hero, but a broke adventurer, holed up against hunger, disease, cold, and demanding combat. The inaugural episode, released in 2019, quickly became a cult classic, with a ritual-based magic system, an absence of quests marked by omnipresent markers, additional investment-aid to grasp the formidably tough combat, and a very robust heuristic with other players.

Outward 2, which is first set to arrive in early access on PC, capitalizes on this identity: developed with Unreal Engine 5, it should offer more readable combat and revamped cooperation, while keeping the DNA that made its predecessor a success.
