The View Askewniverse is the cinematic and pop culture universe created by Kevin Smith, the American independent director who exploded onto the scene in 1994 with Clerks - shot in black and white for about 27,000 dollars, sold at Sundance, becoming a cult classic almost instantly. A film about store clerks slacking off, talking about Star Wars and sex. No heroes, no action. Just real life, ugly and funny.

This universe shares recurring characters, iconic locations (Leonardo's Quick Stop, New Jersey, RST Video, Mooby's) and above all a tone: vulgar, self-deprecating, rooted in geek culture and the counterculture of the 90s-2000s. The major films include Mallrats (1995), Chasing Amy (1997), Dogma (1999) and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001). Kevin Smith plays himself as Silent Bob, his mute sidekick with rare but decisive lines, alongside Jason Mewes as Jay, a loudmouth dealer with a heart of gold.
