The narrative horror game series Amanda the Adventurer first emerged on PC before gradually making its way to consoles. Presented as a curious collection of old children's tapes in the style of 90s educational programs, the franchise uses the falsely innocent aesthetic of cartoons to plunge into unease and then psychological terror. The first episode sets the stage: the player is trapped in an attic, the unsettling VHS tapes feature Amanda and her friend Wooly, and there is a perverse relationship between what is seen on screen and the real world. The second installment, Amanda the Adventurer 2, deepens Riley's role and enriches the mythology of the “haunted” tapes, while playing even more with puzzles and narrative branches. Amanda the Adventurer 3 concludes the narrative arc by playing more than ever with breaking the fourth wall.
