Wayfinder Games

Wayfinder Games is an independent Swedish development studio founded in early 2023, by former EA DICE and Embark Studios members, notably CEO Fia Tjernberg and creative director Dennis Brännvall, based in Sweden, and which would specialize in creating online multiplayer RPGs designed for persistent experiences playable in small groups, inspired by tabletop role-playing games in the vein of Donjons & Dragons.

The studio benefits from substantial funding from Behold Ventures (founded by ex-DICE members), Dreamhaven (Mike and Amy Morhaime's studio, formerly of Blizzard) and Makers Fund, allowing it to develop its ambitions. Wayfinder Games intends to highlight cooperative mechanics, with a persistent world where up to four players can embark together on quests, dungeons and narrative campaigns, while having asynchronous interactions with other actors in the world.

The very first major project, Wyldheart, is a rustic fantasy cooperative RPG recently presented, which addresses character customization, crafting (cooking, gathering, equipment upgrading) and campaigns of about 10 hours of story and 15 hours of additional content. Launch planned in a Kickstarter phase on PC, this title aims to be representative of the tabletop role-playing evenings spirit around a campfire. Note however the possible confusion with another « Wayfinder » (action-RPG expected in 2024), but Wayfinder Games is exclusively dedicated to persistent multiplayer RPGs.
