Nextale Games was founded in 2016 in Montpellier. First known as Smart Tale, the company decided to change its name to better embody its international ambitions. The studio was initially known for its work as a service provider and its collaborations on several multi-platform titles, before turning to the creation of its own IPs.
Nextale has built a team of around twenty developers, artists, and designers, and aims for strong narrative worlds along with tactical mechanics that are easy to pick up but demanding to master. Calame, their first major in-house creation, is a narrative tactical RPG inspired by a French fantasy novel series that illustrates this ambition to combine polished staging, choices with heavy consequences, and an interweaving of contemporary political themes.
