Founded in 1991 in Texas, Id Software revolutionized the video game industry with the creation of the first true first-person shooter (FPS). This American company established itself by delivering, with fast-paced gameplay to back it up, its innovative graphics engine. Among its legendary works, "Wolfenstein 3D" (1992) laid down the principles of the modern FPS. "Doom" (1993) then became a genuine international cultural phenomenon, to the point of setting the standards of the genre with its horror atmosphere and its highly effective first-person multiplayer. "Quake" (1996) then propelled the FPS into full 3D, and popularized competitive online gaming at the same time.
