WW1 Game Series
The WW1 Game Series is a multiplayer FPS franchise developed by Blackmill Games, dedicated to the theaters of operations of World War I. Where most historical FPS games focus on World War II, this saga chose to take on a conflict largely ignored by video games - and to convey its tactical horror with a documentary-level seriousness rare in the genre.
Verdun (2015) launches the series on PC: French trenches, corridor-based gameplay, oppressive atmosphere. A trial effort that became a masterstroke for the independent Dutch studio. Tannenberg (2019) shifts the front to the East, with more open maps and an enhanced squad system. Isonzo (2022) transposes the conflict to the heights of the Italian Alps, introducing vertical environments and a level of visual polish clearly superior to previous episodes.
The fourth installment, Gallipoli, expected on August 20, 2025 on PS5, Xbox Series and PC, tackles the Ottoman front - one of the deadliest and least represented campaigns of the Great War. It brings full cross-play for the first time in the franchise, as well as deep improvements to the movement system and squad-based gameplay.
The franchise has established itself as the reference for the realistic WW1 FPS, occupying a space that major publishers have never seriously deigned to explore.
