Lords of the Fallen, an action-RPG franchise with a large souls-like component, is the brainchild of Polish publisher CI Games and studio Hexworks (for the recent episodes). The series was launched in 2014 with a first title in third-person view, blending methodical combat, stamina management, and a dark fantasy universe underpinned by a martial religion tied to fallen gods.
In 2023, the reboot (again titled Lords of the Fallen) marked the franchise's return while modernizing it: a dual plane of reality between the world of the living and the world of the dead, open level design, and more ambitious staging. Players take on the role of a Lampbearer, a crusader sacrificed by the illumination of a god, tasked with putting an end to the return of the demonic god Adyr.
With Lords of the Fallen II, a direct sequel pushed back to early 2027, CI Games wants to firmly establish the license in the landscape of demanding action-RPGs and make Lords of the Fallen a major dark fantasy saga.
