Grand Theft Auto

The GTA (Grand Theft Auto) video game franchise, developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games, is a historic open-world action-adventure saga that first appeared in 1997. Inspired by the imagery of gangster films and social satire, the series features criminal characters and settings of fake, vast cities, inspired by real American cities like Liberty City (New York) or Los Santos (Los Angeles).

GTA III (2001) renewed the action-adventure genre with its third-person view and immersive world, Vice City (2002) put the 80s in the spotlight, San Andreas (2004) offered an extensive open world and RPG mechanics. Then came GTA IV (2008) and GTA V (2013), which sold more than 200 million copies and still has an honorable presence in online multiplayer mode with GTA Online.

The world of GTA is defined by total freedom: driving, shooting, and completing quests with satirical storytelling denouncing American society. GTA VI, the latest installment stirring up passions, is scheduled for November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S (PC to be confirmed); it should include an innovative multiplayer mode that could lean towards an MMORPG with community features and unprecedented systems.
