Avatar Legends

Avatar Legends is the multimedia franchise derived from the universe created by Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, popularized by the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender (Nickelodeon, 2005-2008). This Asian fantasy universe blends four elemental nations - water, earth, fire and air - and places at its center the Avatar, the only being capable of mastering all four elements.

The canonical continuity spans several generations of Avatars. The Last Airbender follows Aang, a young boy emerging from a century of ice who must stop the Fire Nation's imperialism. The direct sequel, The Legend of Korra (2012-2014), explores a more modern era with an adult Avatar facing political and technological upheavals. These two series laid the foundations of a dense lore, picked up by comics, novels and tabletop role-playing games - notably the Avatar Legends TTRPG by Magpie Games (2022), which gave its name to the expanded franchise.

The impact on geek culture is real: the universe is regularly cited as one of the most narratively accomplished works of Western animation, influencing an entire generation of creators. On the video game front, adaptations were long disappointing - until Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game (2026).
